Solstice Reflections: Awakening the Light Within
The solstice just passed—a sacred marker of transition, transformation, and return. In the Mayan worldview, this moment is more than a seasonal shift. It is when the sun rises again. The light is born anew.
This is a time of deep medicine. A time when the Earth reminds us that cycles are real. Darkness is real. But so is the return of light. Whether you're in the Northern Hemisphere experiencing the slow crawl out of winter or you're basking in the height of summer sun—this solstice holds wisdom for all of us.
The Earth is always speaking. The sky is always guiding.
And the plants? The plants are always showing up.
As we enter the second half of the year, I want to share four herbal allies that you can call on to support your body, mind, and spirit during the summer months.
🌿 4 Summer Herbal Allies to Count On
1. Hibiscus (Flor de Jamaica)
Cooling + Heart-opening
Hibiscus is a bright red flower packed with vitamin C and known for cooling the body and supporting the heart. In hot weather or heated emotions, a cold hibiscus tea can bring both physical and emotional relief. It's also gently diuretic, helping reduce puffiness and bloating from summer heat.
2. Lemon Verbena (Lippia citriodora)
Uplifting + Nervous System Support
With its citrusy aroma and mood-lifting energy, lemon verbena is a powerful ally when summer overstimulation kicks in. It soothes the nervous system, supports digestion, and brings clarity to the mind when things feel fast or scattered.
3. Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata)
Grounding + Sleep Support
The long summer days can leave our sleep cycles disrupted. Passionflower helps quiet the mind, ease circular thoughts, and invite deep rest. It’s a beautiful plant to take in tea or tincture form after sunset.
4. Calendula (Calendula officinalis)
Skin-Healing + Lymph Support
Calendula is sunshine in flower form. Internally, it supports lymphatic movement—great for swollen glands or slow detox. Externally, it helps soothe sunburns, cuts, and inflammation. It’s a must-have in every summer apothecary.
This solstice season, may you slow down enough to hear the messages of the sun, the land, and the plants that have never stopped reaching for the light.
And may you remember—you are nature, too.
