Truth About Parasites: Flukes
Releasing the Flukes: A Call to Our Inner Waters
We’re in a time of great remembering — a return to our internal Earth.
And for many of us, that remembering includes acknowledging what's living in our bodies that no longer belongs.
This week in our parasite education series, we’re focusing on liver flukes — some of the most common and overlooked parasites, especially for those dealing with long-standing, mysterious, or inflammatory health imbalances.
What Are Liver Flukes?
Liver flukes are flatworms that inhabit the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts.
They often go unnoticed in Western medicine until their damage is advanced. But in traditional systems, from Ayurveda to Curanderismo, cleansing the liver and gallbladder regularly was always part of the Earth-based rhythm.
You can become infected by consuming:
Contaminated water (especially with snails present)
Undercooked freshwater fish or shellfish
Unwashed produce
Contact with animal feces or soil
Diseases & Imbalances Linked to Liver Flukes:
When we speak of liver flukes, we are not speaking from fear.
We are speaking from the wisdom of pattern — the interconnectedness of our symptoms and the ecosystems we carry within us.
Liver fluke infections (especially chronic ones) have been associated with:
Gallstones
Cholecystitis (gallbladder inflammation)
Liver fibrosis and scarring
Hepatitis (inflammation of the liver)
Biliary obstruction or bile duct cancer
Pancreatitis
Digestive sluggishness
Chronic acne and skin eruptions
Histamine reactions / allergies
Hormonal imbalances (due to liver stagnation)
Upper abdominal pain
Right shoulder tension (referred liver pain)
Brain fog, fatigue, and depression
For those dealing with autoimmune liver conditions, undiagnosed bloating, or IBS, this may also be a missing piece in the puzzle.
The Moon & The Waters Within
Liver flukes — like most parasites — are lunar-synchronized.
They activate around the full moon, when serotonin levels rise, peristalsis slows, and the body becomes more vulnerable to their migration.
If you're noticing:
Itching at night
Mood swings or irritability
Liver pain
Sleep disturbance around the full moon
These may be clues from your body.Sugar Cravings, especially at night
Healing Is Earth Work
To clear liver flukes, we support the entire terrain:
Liver & gallbladder herbs like Dandelion, Oregon grape root, Sarsarparilla
Anti-parasitic allies like clove, black walnut, mimosa, neem, and andrographis
Binders like zeolite or bentonite
Nervous system support to regulate the waters within
Digestive bitters to get bile flowing again
And of course: honoring your rest, your life path, your dreams, your Temple.
No Shame, No Fear — Just Truth
Having parasites doesn’t make you “dirty.”
